Using multiple modeling techniques on the same data set

Although a single analytic technique is typically selected at the proposal stage of a data mining project, it is worth considering modeling the same data using more than one technique. Here is a simple example that shows why.

In this example, we have a database of 32,345 households, a dichotomous dependent variable (good vs. bad credit risk), and three predictors: age group, occupational status, and pay schedule (weekly vs. monthly).
